This rare moment.

"Fools die many times before their deaths, the valiant never taste of death but once, of the wonders I yet have heard it seems most strange to me that men should fear, seeing that death a necessary end will come when it will come" - William Shakespeare.

It will be a mortal sin to ignore or downplay an act of heroism that has recently been demonstrated in this present time. These days, acts of heroism are left for actors, admired on the theatre screen in a Marvel action movie, but this particular event cannot go unsaid.

Napoleon said "The world suffers a lot. Not because of the violence of bad people. But because of the silence of the good people.” I would like to turn our attention, in a standing ovation, to the recent activities of youth in the person of David Adeleke (a.k.a. Davido). He has transcended his status as merely a music artist, adding to it echelons of patriotism, activism, and heroism.

Quite recently the Nigerian Senate passed a 'Not too young to run bill,' once an overly utilized term finally became theorized, to the dismay of naysayer, and belief of doubting Thomas'. The question then becomes who is the youth gearing up to run? Many youths have learned or have been advised to steer clear of politics and its intricacies. The brave amongst them secure a voters card and express their franchise on election day. Whether or not it creates an impact is inconsequential to them.

Here comes a stud, celebrated the world over for the music he makes, lives ostensibly off the large revenues he generates, whilst not forgetting the old money in his shadow. He reserved the right to act in a manner that most artists would- get paid to sing at a rally and retire to his comfort, but no, not this lad, he applied himself in more ways, learned the ropes of electioneering in record time and made his impact felt in the campaign arena. He dismissed counsel against his actions, the repercussions it may have on his career, the oppression that may ensue, or the direct attack on his life and property. It did not stop here, he also utilized his social media handle to vent and take a stance on the matters arising in the Osun state elections.

I find it ignorant, naive, and cowardly to say the impetus for his actions has links with family ties. It is not unheard of, that family members dissociate themselves from one another in times of need, especially when the risks outweigh the benefits. Irrespective of how his actions would want to be undermined, I deem them a show of bravado. We have had big-time artists rescind their decision of a protest because of intimidation, we have had those, who refused to lend their voices to the people because it would offset their bank account balances. No form of disparage can take away this noble and novel act by David Adeleke (a.k.a Davido).

I can only hope that his actions have sent a message to the youths, resonates with his colleagues and all that desire to live in a Nigeria of their dreams, to change the narrative, to herald a new epoch of politically savvy youths, and raise a new crop of true nationalist with a conscience for good governance.

Mr David Adeleke you have my respect for being dauntless and if I could confer upon you a title I would pronounce you the 'Most Oustanding Youth of 2018'. We have seen you grow, from a man that kicked against philandering to one who appreciates the one man, one woman model, and now to a patriot. You deserve much more accolades.
