Live your life the way you want.

My yeg! My yeg! The adorable beckoning of my 15 months old niece, on whoever can come to the rescue of her foot, from the evil grains of sand that has laid siege on it. She’s totally helpless; her life is an extension of ours in varying degrees. What can she do without us... she’s totally helpless. But I think she sees it contrarily, when she looks at us, she sees her personal cook/feeder, her designated carrier and dandler, her laundry person, her butt cleaner and a whole retinue of staff living to meet her needs. Do we get tired sometimes, yes, are we going to stop, no. Her life is also ours, she’s our investment in the future, she carries all the good traits that poisoned our lives and wields the formula for our perfect progeny, or so we would like to think. We contemplate her future, the schools she would attend, the sports she'll play (that a no brainer- football), and other futuristic events of her life that are within our control. In a separate event that happene

True Security; The Khashoggi Story

Its no longer news that a now deceased New York Times reporter was allegedly murdered in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey. In spite of the arguments and counter arguments one thing we would all love to see at the end of the day is that justice is served, and to this end I will be dwelling on the commendable security apparatus and expertise that has lead to the unveiling of some hard hidden truths. The word security is synonymous with safety. Protection from perceptible and imperceptible threats. The level invested in the security of a state or a people is synonymous with their value for life. Security apparatus may not always be sufficient enough to avert danger, sometimes its inevitable, other times its collateral damage, but in peculiar cases like this, a therapeutic value of sophisticated security to help restore sanity. To provide closure and justice to families and friends of the affected. If you have ever been a victim of theft or armed robbery, there are two major pha

This rare moment.

"Fools die many times before their deaths, the valiant never taste of death but once, of the wonders I yet have heard it seems most strange to me that men should fear, seeing that death a necessary end will come when it will come" - William Shakespeare. It will be a mortal sin to ignore or downplay an act of heroism that has recently been demonstrated in this present time. These days, acts of heroism are left for actors, admired on the theatre screen in a Marvel action movie, but this particular event cannot go unsaid. Napoleon said " The world suffers a lot. Not because of the violence of bad people. But because of the silence of the good people.” I  would like to turn our attention, in a standing ovation, to the recent activities of youth in the person of David Adeleke (a.k.a. Davido). He has transcended his status as merely a music artist, adding to it echelons of patriotism, activism, and heroism. Quite recently the Nigerian Senate passed a 'Not too young to

Is wearing your heart on your sleeves enough?

My friend Stanley is someone I look up to when it comes to issues of love and romance, he is very explicit with his emotions, sometimes I feel its too much, such effusive display of affection has yet been known to men like me. Once he is in love it exudes from every faucet of his body, eyes, mouth, hands, breath, its quite palpable. I often say to myself, will I ever achieve this, because as an introvert in transition, we take more time testing the waters than getting in. As admirable as his gestures may be, it always seems never to be enough as the inevitable breakup is always lurking in the shadows. This further worsening my precarious unromantic state of life. Are relationships rocket science? What requirements would be considered enough? because from where I stand its a really tall order. So, late last year, my living version of Romeo meets his Juliet at a wedding, I would like to down play the whole event as, it was the usual occurrence, but this was far from it,

A glimpse of heaven.

This phrase is synonymous with ecstasy... not the drug, but the word. its an experience we would pay any price to have day in day out, its the source of all addictions. Its appeals to our hedonistic nature, its pursuance is constant. but here is the question I pose to you today. What does heaven look like? Our biology will allude this description to the interplay of hormones at various parts of our brains' at certain points in time, which generates the euphoria that we qualify as heaven. this intricate, internal workings is stimulated by external stimuli which comes in various forms. Everyone has a source of such stimuli, it spans from unitary activities such as listening to music, poetry, carousing, smoking to multiperson activities, sports, hangouts, sex etc. Whichever yours may be it serves as an oasis of wellness. As indulging as any of these may be they still fall short of the mark. The greatest vista of heaven can only be gotten through Love. If it were a drug it wo

Holding On Is Not Always Better Than Letting Go

Image
The phrase 'let go of' has been demonized in several quarters as a negative occurrence that brings about sadness. So, the ordinary persons notion of the phrase, either in written or spoken form is perceived as a loss. But from personal and eye-witness experience I can authoritatively say that this isn't always the case. The trepidation of what happens next or what will happen when we let go keeps our hands occupied (tied) literally, for a long period of time. Let us use the analogy of weights to cite an example. Weight means different things to different people, to the fat lady- bad, to the muscle junkie- good, to the artisan- stress, but one thing is common to all, they all aim to let go of the weight at some point. Same with relationships, the weight of some relationships get us out of shape mentally and physically, while some bend us over and over labour us, others do us good by putting us in top form. Therefore, assess the relationships you have, be it a work

A Mandela tomorrow

Swing low, sweet chariot, coming forth to carry home... whenever I chant to this song, the picture formed in my head over and over again are a battered lot, in a quandary not of their own doing, but an aftermath of greed, selfishness, lack of foresight, parochial thinking and every word that describes a rudderless society ran with bad decisions from wrong leaders. some authors say slaves were taken forcefully, others say they were bought, I say it was their destiny. Every-time I remember this saying, ''if a man has in him the soul of a slave will he not eventually become one, just as water finds its level - RMIB, I say to myself this is the perfect explanation of what happened in Africa. We were taken for lack of vision, we were oppressed for lack of foresight, we were used to fulfil another mans mission, we were returned to satisfy humanitarian norms, we are back to where it all began, but this time with a mindset of subjugation for the citizens by selfish leaders/ so

''What separates the winners from the losers is how a person reacts to each new twist of fate.'''- Donald Trump.  The POTUS has become my modern day super hero, for reasons not very far fetched. He has defied the laws of gravity that pulls Presidents, Statesmen and Politicians to the center of charlatanism, procrastination and broken promises. he has taught the world an invaluable lesson; a man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds. Against the backdrop of naysayers, he has demonstrated an uncommon determination to make good on his campaign promises irrespective of how they are  perceived. Expecting the worst whilst hoping for the best. My new found conviction is to trump limitations with a Donald type of determination, to internalise a culture of doing what I can, while I can and leave the rest to the world to hobnob over its inadequacies. My country will be having its next presidential election in 2019, a lot of politricks and politickin

Hello readers, I have missed you and this part of me a great deal. I used to measure maturity as, how far I've come as to where I started, now I know better. How far I've come lies in my ability to start over again and again, with shortening refractory periods. Never throwing-in the towel. Here I am again, taking another shot at blogging. Not sure of what lies ahead but holding on to my newly found resilience, and I know resistance will always give way to persistence. This is my rebirth and it promises to be insightful...
