Blind Loyalty

Often times we are faced with the allegation of where our loyalties lie, and at times like this we mostly thoughtlessly respond in a way pleasing to the accuser. The answer is usually not straightforward or rather should not be, it's a type of question that requires some degree of brainstorming. What are you loyal to? are you loyal to an entity or his philosophy? are you loyal to yourself and your beliefs as it is in alignment with that of the accuser? after answering these questions then you can return an answer.

The kind of loyalty that demands our unequivocal, sycophant-like-allegiance is blind loyalty which is lethal. Our loyalty should never be anchored on a person but on the personality and the values it portrays and once it has been betrayed the common loyalty once shared can weave.
It is the election period in Nigeria and as usual, the political rhetoric is at its best, party faithful turn out in their large numbers in support of the party's candidates. Demagoguery and all sorts of manipulative devices are set in motion to deceive this undiscerning lot, and one thing I would like to ask is, has the party been loyal to its manifesto? its promises? its vision?

Being sequacious is not a tenet of loyalty but rather a harbinger of destruction in the long run. whenever I get to watch movies about black ops operations, one thing resonates with me, everyone looks out for the other, one weak link could kill a whole company of soldiers so their eyes have to be opened at all times. Having loyal followers is good, but having blind ones is dangerous, it will always breed mediocrity and expose your leadership to attacks.

I urge all and sundry, in whatever sphere of life you find yourself not to exhibit blind loyalty, it's okay to have a different opinion, angle, or perception, as long as it contributes in the long run to the overall well-being of the organization, relationship or institution. Never be too loyal to a human being, why? we lose focus sometimes, we get derailed, and if you don't re-evaluate your loyalty you can get misled and train-wrecked.
